Who we are
SomFarms is a community organisation focused on smallholder farming and rural livelihoods in Somalia. Our main office is in Wadajir District, Banadir Region, and our programme coverage area is the whole Lower Shabelle Region.
Our work centres on two connected areas: crop farming and food production, and farmer training and agricultural education.
Our vision
A food-secure and self-reliant farming community in Lower Shabelle, where smallholder farmers have the knowledge, resources and resilience to feed their families and communities sustainably.
Our mission
To improve food production and farmer livelihoods through practical agricultural training, sustainable and climate-resilient farming, and stronger local capacity for long-term food security.
Our values
- Community ownership: programmes designed with local farmers.
- Sustainability: care for land, water and farming livelihoods.
- Integrity and transparency: responsible use of resources.
- Inclusion: participation by women, youth and vulnerable households.
- Knowledge sharing: practical skills shared within farming communities.
Where we work
SomFarms plans its programmes across Lower Shabelle Region. Activities depend on assessed needs, access and security conditions, available resources, approved plans and local coordination.
Governance and accountability
The SomFarms Xeer-Hoosaad sets out the roles of the General Assembly, Board of Directors and Executive Director. The General Assembly provides overall authority, the Board oversees strategy and accountability, and executive management leads daily operations.
The constitution separates Board oversight from daily management. It also sets out expectations for financial records, conflicts of interest, procurement, reporting, safeguarding and protection of personal information.
Our approach
SomFarms aims to combine access to agricultural inputs with practical training, attention to water management and community feedback. Programme expansion is planned in line with available resources and organisational capacity.
